Karen Dowling & Rey Martin
Karen Dowling was born in Seattle and grew up in Ann Arbor, MI. She studied electrical engineering at Caltech in Pasadena, CA, and continued with her graduate study (MS and PhD) at Stanford University. She is now a postdoctoral researcher at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Her research interests are in creating electronics that survive in extreme environments and power devices for green energy.
Rey Martin is a second-generation Latino and the first in his family to attend a university. Rey earned an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from UCLA and a graduate degree in Chemical Engineering at Northwestern University. He has worked at DuPont as a Fermentation Engineer making enzymes that are used in detergents. In his current role, Rey is a Process Development Scientist seeking to improve the production of biomedicines as part of the biopharmaceutical company, Amgen.
