nano@stanford is currently in the process of merging & expanding!

We are expanding into a new low-vibration laboratory space!    Learn about the Deep Lab

During the merger, some areas of the site may be incomplete or undergoing updates.
The Stanford Nanofabrication Facility (SNF/Fab@Allen) and the Stanford Nano Shared Facilities (SNSF) websites are available as needed during this transition.

"nano@stanford helped solidify my research interests through its innovative and supportive environment. As a Human Biology major, the sophisticated and niche applications of nanotechnology to the medical field gave me unique insights on the future of biology research. I was further inspired by our outreach events, which gave me the chance to interact with young students, and inspire the next generation of scientists. I’m grateful for all the mentors who supported me during my time at SNF, who actively taught me the intricacies of this field, empowered me as a leader, and encouraged me to apply my knowledge towards a budding MD-PhD career. I am thankful to Chloe, Alex, Lavendra, Uli, Daniella, Rachelle, Leyla and all my co-interns (a lot of whom have become my friends) for their knowledge and influence that I have carried since. Currently, I’m studying Human Biology at UC San Diego with a Chemistry minor. Feel free to reach out and I will definitely be happy to chat!” - Joaquin Arig, SNF Intern (03/23 - 09/24)

"Interning at SNF was one of the most fulfilling experiences during my time in community college. My experience at SNF, was my first ever exposure to nano-scale science–and to academia as a whole. That exposure greatly influenced me to pursue my major, and equipped me with valuable technical and soft skills to help me excel in it. Leveraging the skills and knowledge I developed in SNF, I was able to do nanophotonics research at its sister site: Harvard’s CNS! Beyond the technical development, the mentorship, guidance, and encouragement from the amazing staff of nano@stanford, helped me immensely in becoming a better researcher, engineer, and person.

Currently, I’m at UC San Diego wrapping up my studies in electrical engineering, hoping to delve deeper into nano-scale science! Thanks in part to nano@stanford, I now intern at one of their research hubs: the Qualcomm Institute! I’m excited about what lies ahead in the next few years and I’m grateful to the foundation nano@stanford provided!” - Alsyl Enriquez, SNF Intern (10/22 - 09/24)

Priscilla Boo

"Working at the SIGMA lab has been such an incredible experience! Coming in with limited hands-on research experience, I wasn’t sure what being a researcher would look like. However, meeting and learning from researchers across various fields has truly been eye opening. This experience has inspired and encouraged me to explore careers in academia and solidified my desire to pursue a career in research. At the Doerr School, I had the privilege of collaborating with researchers in environmental health sciences. Their dedication and passion for their work have motivated me to apply to UCLA’s Sustainable LA Grand Challenge Undergraduate Research Program, allowing me to continue my journey in a field I might not have discovered otherwise. A huge thank you to my mentors, Karrie and Kathleen, for guiding me through analytical chemistry research and showing me what goes into designing experiments. This program has had such a big impact on my academic journey, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!” - Priscilla Boo, SIGMA Intern (07/23 - 09/24)

Leyla Odoutan

"After three years at SNF, I am transitioning into a new role as an external lab member. My time at SNF has been nothing short of transformative, and I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude for all the support, mentorship, and inspiration I received along the way. When I first joined SNF, I had little understanding of nanofabrication, but thanks to the amazing staff, I quickly gained confidence, learned invaluable skills, and grew in ways I couldn’t have imagined. The environment created here made me feel valued, supported, and empowered to contribute my best. I also owe many of my career opportunities to the foundation I built here at SNF. My internship at Intel and now this incredible opportunity with Artisan Insight wouldn’t have been possible without the skills, support, and mentorship I received from this community." - Leyla Odoutan, SNF Senior Intern (10/21 - 10/24)

Nilya Betosip

“My experience at SIGMA has helped me tremendously with my lab course and my scientific understanding in general. I found that a lot of my peers had some anxieties surrounding lab work and carrying out lab tasks, but I had confidence from my prior experiences, especially at SIGMA. I am also taking an isotope geochem class next quarter, which was entirely motivated by all the amazing geochem research that I saw in the lab. My experience also helped me get a research lab position in chemistry, and I am currently working on a poster to showcase my research at a poster symposium next quarter! I am super grateful and thankful for nano@stanford and for helping build my scientific experience.” - Nilya Betosip, SNF Senior Intern (01/22 - 09/23)

Nadia Berndt

“The nano@stanford internship was my first experience working in a lab outside the classroom. It helped me focus and solidify my decision in pursuing chemistry-related research in the future. The science I was conducting during my internship was so different from my classes, which made it really exciting and fun to be at SNF. I also enjoyed talking to other students and industry professionals working in the fab and learning about their experiences, building soft skills, and networking. All in all, my time at SNF helped me solidify my decision to pursue chemistry for my Bachelors and PhD. It’s exciting to see this program expanding and offering more chances for community college students to gain research experiences. Lowering the barriers for STEM research and internship positions is important to me as I struggled finding such opportunities both during community college and after transferring.” - Nadia Berndt, SNF Senior Intern (08/19 - 07/20)
