Warrior Scholar Project (WSP) Visit
We had the opportunity to host a group of students participating in the Warrior Scholar Project (WSP) at our campus, where they received facility tours and live instrument demos. WSP is a national organization that puts on science Boot Camps for young veterans as a means to help them transition into college courses. Thank you to everyone that helped make this event a success!
NanoSIMST 2025
This summer, we welcomed 13 incredible middle school STEM teachers from across the Bay Area (and as far as Arizona and Illinois!) for our in-person NanoSIMST workshop at Stanford University. Led by Daniella Duran from nano@stanford, the four-day program was packed with hands-on labs, interactive activities, and expert-led lectures, all designed to help teachers bring the exciting world of nanoscience back to their classrooms.
Since 2017, NanoSIMST has equipped over 249 teachers with nanoscience education tools — reaching more than 14,000 students across the country. We're proud to continue this work and can’t wait to see how these educators inspire the next generation of scientists!
Coliseum College Prep Academy / Oakland Promise Visit
We had the opportunity to host a group of students from Coliseum College Preparatory Academy at our campus, where they learned all about the wonders of nano! The students participated in hands-on activities including sun print photolithography, a wafer station, and a tabletop SEM demo, while also getting a behind-the-scenes tour of nano@stanford and the Stanford campus. A special thank you to Ashley Saunders, Alfred Vargas, and Evan Isbell for giving insightful research lightning talks, to the Oakland Promise team for their support, and to the volunteers who helped to make this event a success!
nano@stanford 2024 Open House
We celebrated National Nanotechnology Day on October 9 by hosting our annual Open House event at the Jen-Hsun Huang Engineering Center on campus. The day was filled with activities, including a poster session, career panel, research lightning talks, industry meet and greets, trivia night, a scavenger hunt, and so much more. Thank you to everyone who joined us and played a part in making this such an incredible day!
Foothill & De Anza Community College Visit
We had a fantastic time hosting students from Foothill College and De Anza College at our nanofabrication facilities in August! From engaging lightning talks to window tours and hands-on demos of our AFM and tabletop SEM, we hope that it was an enriching experience for everyone. Check out some photos from their visit!
In-Person NanoSIMST
This summer, we held a four-day professional development workshop designed for middle school STEM teachers. NanoSIMST, short for Nanoscience Summer Institute for Middle School Teachers, is overseen by Daniella Duran, the Director of Education and Outreach for nano@stanford. This year, we welcomed 15 teachers from schools across California, spanning from Oakland to Los Angeles, and even one from Arkansas! The program aims to introduce nanoscience to teachers through engaging activities, interactive labs and tours, insightful lectures, and diverse pedagogical approaches. The ultimate goal is to provide support to teachers, so they are empowered to bring nanoscience content and careers to their students. Since the program’s kickoff in 2017, we have trained 145 teachers, positively impacting approximately 12,565 students, including 2,352 students this year.
